MÄTIL is three-part public online program: exhibitions, panel discussions, and translation workshops. The MÄTIL program focuses on the practice of language in public cultural life and in the arts: the visual language of contemporary art, language activism, grassroots language initiatives, and literary translations.
The MÄTIL translation workshop is an experiment and an attempt to start a dialogue between Kazakh and Russian literature in Kazakhstan. We invited living and working poets in Kazakhstan to translate each other. The workshop was held in three languages (Kazakh, English and Russian) and resulted in a series of mutual translations of the participating poets.
